History
Shop Rite was established in 1966, when John Dan Gielen approached his mother, Julia J. Gielen and his Aunt Genevieve J. Saab, and    asked to purchase a lot num1.jpg (78743 bytes) in south Crowley where his grandfather once operated a neighborhood grocery store. He wanted to  open a convenience store, which would have as its only competition a Phil-A-Sak on North Parkerson in Crowley. In spite of some objection and a few fears, a house and store building were removed from the property (525 South Parkerson) and construction of the first Shop Rite was begun. It opened  its doors to business in 1966. The business was based on friendly, courteous and fast customer service and is still in operation today.
